This web page contains information pertaining to my profession and the company that I work for and have worked for. Technical papers that I've written, types of work that I do, and project descriptions are also available here.

I have been involved in the power quality arena since 1990 when I joined Electrotek Concepts, Inc.. While at Electrotek, I managed a wide range of projects involving power quality analysis, monitoring, and simulations. In 2000, I joined EPRI PEAC Corporation, which became EPRI Solutions and eventually was merged into now EPRI. At EPRI, I am responsible for the coordination of power quality site investigations, testing projects, and transmission and distribution monitoring and reliability studies as well as Web site management, design, and implementation. My areas of expertise include power monitoring, voltage-sag analysis, and wiring and grounding issues. My specific areas of research include monitoring and analysis of transmission and distribution systems.

I have helped develop power quality programs and power quality monitoring systems for major utilities in the US and abroad including Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., City Public Service of San Antonio, Public Service of New Mexico, East Midlands Electricity in the United Kingdom, ZSE in the Slovak Republic, and CLP Power in Hong Kong.

I am a Senior member in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Throughout my career, I have been involved in various standards activities for the IEEE. These include:

  • Member, IEEE Power System Engineering Committee
  • Member, IEEE Industrial Applications Society
  • Chairman, IEEE IAS Power Quality Sub-Committee
  • Secretary, IEEE Emerald Book, IEEE Std. 1100-1999
  • Chapter 3 Chairman, IEEE Emerald Book, IEEE Std. 1100-1999
  • Member, IEEE Std. 1159, Monitoring Electric Power Quality
  • Member, IEEE Power System Engineering Design Sub-Committee
  • Member, IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 22, Power Quality
  • Member, IEEE Project 1346 Working Group
  • Member, IEEE Project 1409 Working Group
  • Member, IEEE 519 Application Guide Task Force
  • Chairman, IEEE P1668, Recommended Practice for Voltage Sag and Interruption Ride-through Testing for End-use Electrical Equipment Less than 1,000 Volts

I have written over 35 technical papers for organizations like the IEEE, CIRED, PQ/PCIM, PQA, and DistribuTech. I have presented over 70 talks and seminars on power quality that include tutorials and workshops on power quality monitoring and analysis. For more detailed information, please see my resume.
